For those with even a passing interest in the British monarchy, Meghan Markle is something of a polarising figure, but I don’t think anyone can argue she isn’t a stylish woman.
And while she’s always entirely current with her choices (without ever looking fussy), since she first appeared by Harry’s side, she’s also worn certain classic pieces, most of which is the eternal trench coat.
An evolution of waterproof coats created in the 1820s, heritage brands Aquascutum and Burberry both take credit for having “invented” the trench coat in the 1850s. We've adapted the classic and made some our trench coat styles to be our most popular and best selling!
By the 1940s, the trench had moved from military to Hollywood, famously worn by the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Meryl Streep to name a few.
To this day, not much has changed as far as the design goes. Trench coats are still mostly double-breasted, with attached belts featuring D-rings, a caped back, and a storm flap or two at the shoulder. We have our own different styles of this outerwear icon below.
It can be worn open and draped or buttoned and belted, and over pretty much anything - or even on its own.
Add a few of Markle’s other secret weapons - a smoky eye, immaculate hair, a buff of blush on the cheeks, and a carefully applied nude lip, and you have a look worthy of modern royalty.
